Event Schedule for August 14 - 18

- Thursday, August 14th

·         State of the Upper Gunnison Presentation - Crested Butte Center for the Arts 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM

            Learn about the water quality and quantity issues in the Upper Gunnison
            and how local organizations and agencies are working to protect local waters
            for 
future generations of locals and visitors. 


- Friday, August 15th

·         “Celebration of Rivers” Artists Reception – Gunnison Gallery 5:00 -7:00PM

Visit the Gunnison Gallery for great displays of art celebrating our rivers.  Poerty and prose readings will add flavor to the visual art submitted.

·         Swing Doctors -Live Music - Gunnison Arts Center 7:00 – 9:00 PM

Kick off the weekend with the Swing Doctors on the back patio at the Gunnison Arts Center.

·         Star Party and Public Viewing - Gunnison Valley Obervatory 8:00 – 11:00 PM


- Saturday August 16th:

·         Registration – Gunnison Whitewater Park – 9:00 – 11:00

·         Opening Ceremony – Gunnison Whitewater Park – 11:30

·         Scenic River Tours and Three Rivers Resort Community Raft Race – Garlic Mike’s (North Bridge) - 9:00 – 11:00

Start the festival off right with "friendly" race down the Gunnison. Costumes encouraged!

A very special thanks to Garlic Mike's for the use of their lot for this event.

·         Sidewalk Chalk Contest – 8:00 – 11:00 AM

      Show off your art skills and your appreciation of rivers with this water themed sidewalk chalk contest!

·          Colorado Fitness' Race a Raft – Garlic Mike’s (North Bridge) - 9:00 – 11:00

Rafters and runners are paired and the team with the best combined time will carry home the "Golden Paddle" and all of the accolades from this prized treasure. Run hard, it’s worth it!

·          Gunnison Farmer’s Market – 10:00 – 2:00 – Downtown Gunnison

Farm fresh produce, baked goods, meats, and prepared foods.

·         Teva Freestyle Kayak Competition  - 11:30 – 6:00

             Loops, space, godzillas, and grinds.  Need we say more?

·         Mountain Fireplace Specialists Foam Boat Race – 11:30 – 12:30

Remember the pine box derby?  Try making a kayak out of foam and race it
            on
our extreme course!

 ·         Gunnison Valley Animal Welfare League – Dunk-a-Dog Contests – Various Times and Locations

     
Wear your dog out with a variety of fun events!

·          Captain Black Boater X –1:00 – 2:00

      Like a motorcross, but with boats. Expect carnage!

·         Rock and Roll Sports Kids Climbing Competition - 1:30 – 3:00

      Climb -> Win -> Yeah! All ages and skill levels welcome.

·         Trinity Baptist Church “Kids Zone” – 11:30 – 6:00

Especially for kids! Moon bounce, games, and activities for kids of all ages! 

·         Tune Up Ski and Bike Townie Bike Race – Downtown Gunnison – 3:00

      Costumes, townie bikes, chaos! And it’s free! Yes free!

·         Longboard Contest 3:00

      Sound insane? It is! Watch these geographically challenged surfers charge it. Don’t tell them they’re in  Colorado, it just confuses them.

·          Awards Ceremony and Live Music at Timbers –Downtown Gunnison – 8:00 PM – 1:00 AM

      Bring your best “white trash” outfit and dance the night away at Timbers.

-  Sunday August 17th: 

·         Down River Race – North Bank – 9:00 AM

      400 cfs on the Upper Taylor! Raft or kayak!

·         Dutch Oven Cookoff – Town Park Pavilion in Crested Butte – 5:00 – 8:00

      Show off your Dutch Oven skills!

·         Black Canyon Bluegrass Night - Greensky Bluegrass Band @ The Eld0 – 8:30 – 11:30 PM

-         Monday, August 18th

·          Coal Creek Watershed Coalition - 9:00

Adult Hike and Water quality Demonstration – meet at the Butte Ave Bridge for an interactive demo of water quality in Coal Creek.

·          Standard Mine Hike – Meet at Town Hall at 1:45

See all the improvements through the EPA’s remediation efforts at the Standard Mine.

·         Hiking Tour of the Peanut Mine – Meet at Town Hall – 5:30 – 7:30 PM

      Take a leisurely stroll through the restored Peanut Mine site and hear about the efforts made to restore this site.
